Participation Grading - Management 351 - Fall 2018

Grades have now been posted for the “Active Class Participation” part of your course grade. Here’s the formula I used for determining your participation grade – there were two “free” absences (one week’s worth of classes). Then, they counted….so, based on your number of absences during the semester, the following table shows your grade for in-class participation for the class:

For those that took advantage of this grade, I congratulate you for your diligence. For those however that failed to take advantage of this opportunity for earning your grade (and learning more by being in-class), please be advised that this was spelled-out to you at the beginning of class (both in-class and in the course syllabus as shown above) and repeatedly discussed throughout the semester.

If you have any questions or concerns over your participation grade, please see me.

Suggestions for TV Documentary Series to Watch for International Project

Here's a VERY quick, and certainly not all-inclusive list, of some very interesting American-made television series that you might want to consider watching for the My Big Country Adventure Project. These are a "caveat" to watching foreign-made shows, as each is excellent - in its own way - of exploring other peoples and cultures (and yes, I know "House Hunters" is fake, but...).

So, here goes - any episode of any one of these shows exploring a foreign country (Anthony Bourdain does do some U.S. exploring and yes, House Hunters has visited darn near every U.S. city - even Mandeville and Slidell) - would be great for you to watch as part of your international project, and then do return here to make a post on the Weekly Discussion Post with suggestions as to what you watched and how you liked it (or even disliked it!).

World Cup Extra Credit - Summer 2018 Semester

Want to make watching this year’s World Cup a tad more interesting? Well, you will have a stake in the results, as each student in Management 425 will randomly draw a number to be assigned a country. Depending on how your country does, you will “earn” some serious - and real - extra credit to be used on the final exam. The further in the World Cup your team advances, the higher the level of extra credit. How much? Well, here goes….

  • Round of 16: 5 points on Test 4
  • Round of 8: 10 points on Test 4
  • Semi-Finals (Round of 4): 20 points on Test 4
  • Finals (Round of 2): 25 points on Test 4
  • World Cup Champion: Exempt from Test 4 - Automatic 100!

God Bless America! Well, except that we - the U.S. - didn’t qualify for the World Cup this time around!

So, here’s the chart detailing who has what country for the Summer 2018 Semester, based on the random draw conducted at the class orientation sessions:

Certainly though, this might make you choose to follow your country’s results - and maybe even get up and watch some soccer as part of your summer course project (though it might be a tad early for Buffalo Wild Wings - even in Louisiana!). Here’s a link to the complete TV schedule:

And here’s a link to the official ESPN page for you to track your team and all the results during the tournament, which will take place smack in the middle of our Summer 2018 Semester from June 14th - July 15th. Good luck to everyone!
