Week 1 Discussion Forum - May 30 - June 10th

Students,

Please use this as your discussion forum for your activities for the My Big Summer Adventure Abroad (At Home) Project. Seen a great international TV show or movie? Tried a recipe from abroad that was actually good? Found a local international cuisine restaurant that you would give 5 stars to on Yelp or TripAdvisor? Use this forum to tell your classmates what you're doing - what you liked (and even what you didn't!).

Have Fun and Do Get Involved!

  1. For a cheesy yet inspirational French movie based on adventure and love, check out "The Climb", currently available through Netflix. This movie, based on a true story, follows the journey of an impulsive French-Senegalese to prove his love to his childhood friend. Check it out! ~ Lauren A.

    1. Hey Lauren! Thanks for being the "first in the pool" and posting the movie recommendation! :-)

  2. A recommendation for a pretty awesome TV show in a different language is Attack on Titan. It’s a pretty interesting Anime, and it’s available on Netflix and Hulu.

  3. A friend mentioned to me this past week that there is a Pho festival (Vietnamese style cuisine) this coming weekend June 9 and June 10. There are supposed to be a variety of Vietnamese dishes and music etc. It appears that the festival is from 9am until 5pm both days in Harvey, LA. I passed it by Dr. Wyld and he stated that this would be considered an approved event!

  4. I prepared vegan Vietnamese spring rolls this evening for my husband and myself. It was surprisingly cost efficient and simple, with the only somewhat challenging aspect being the delicate rice paper assembly. Once I practiced a few times I got the hang of it. You can get all the ingredients, including rice paper and thin rice noodles, at your local Rouse's grocery store. Ours were veggie based and paired with a spicy peanut dipping sauce. My 3 month old son is too young to try them but he was eyeing them! If you're a meat eater, you can make them with pork, shrimp - just about whatever you want. They keep very well in the fridge if you want to have them the next day or bring them to school for lunch.
