Students,

Please use this as your discussion forum for your activities for Week 3 of the the My Big Summer Adventure Abroad (At Home) Project. Seen a great international TV show or movie? Tried a recipe from abroad that was actually good? Found a local international cuisine restaurant that you would give 5 stars to on Yelp or TripAdvisor? Use this forum to tell your classmates what you're doing - what you liked (and even what you didn't!).

Have Fun and Do Get Involved!

  1. I recently ate at Albasha (Greek and Lebanese Food). It was definitely interesting. I would definitely go back. I know that there is one located in Covington and Slidell, but I'm unsure of other locations.

  2. There's an Albasha in Hammond too! One of my favorite dishes from there are these flaky triangles filled with spinach and cheese. I'm not certain what they area called there, but online most recipes call it Spanakopita. I tried making it at home tonight. It's pretty simple, just make the mixture and fold it up in the phylo sheets. All the olive oil got pretty messy though, and folding each triangle was time-consuming, but they smell pretty good in the oven right now.

  3. My husband and I had Rimal this evening - also Mediterranean food (primarily Lebanese). I ordered a sauteed veggie plate with some hummus and pita bread. I've been theorizing what they must've used in this dish since I'd love to try to make it one day. The veggies were pretty straight forward - carrots, bell pepper, zucchini, yellow squash...was VERY garlic heavy. The rice was yellow, so perhaps they used turmeric? In any case, it was delicious. My husband enjoyed the beef and lamb gyro with hummus and pita bread. We highly recommend this Mandeville restaurant!
